In October 2015, we held our first-ever Uptown Grand Central Big Apple Crunch to celebrate Food Day along with neighborhood health partners and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer

More than 200 apples were crunched by area schoolchildren from the Association to Benefit Children, Harlem Children's Zone, Global Community Charter School, and Edible Schoolyard NYC and Wellness in the Schools from P.S. 7 Samuel Stern. The children gathered for two hours of apple activities including apple stamping, apple face-painting, apple hula-hooping and more! We then held the "3, 2, 1" countdown to the official "crunch" in the Uptown Grand Central plaza.

Big thanks go out to East Harlem merchant sponsors Apple Bank and Urban Garden Center for making the event possible in conjunction with NHEMA and Greenmarket Co./GrowNYC. The NYC Food Policy Center, Hunter College Nutrition Club, East Harlem District Public Health Office and the NYPD 25th Precinct also provided resources and support.

Here's to the health of East Harlem!
