What happens when you close a street to cars, and open it up to people?

Come find out on Sunday, October 1, from 12-4 p.m., when Party On Park opens the spaces under and along the Park Avenue Viaduct to walk, scoot, bike & more!

This year, we’re expanding an extra five blocks south, to make room for even more fun while the Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement is underway.

Explore each intersection all the way from 125th to 111th streets, starting at the Uptown Grand Central community plaza at 125th Street, and ending at the new location of Urban Garden Center at 111th Street. Scoll below to map your day:

125TH: TED SMOOTH oldschool jam & LIVE STREET ART

Dance ‘til you can’t dance no more at the Ted Smooth Oldschool Jam. Plus free rollerskating with Skaterobics.

Artists will be painting live at the corner of 124th & Park, as part of the Grandscale Mural Project. Plus check out the street art truck from the NYC Department of Sanitation.

124TH: ROLLERskates & citi bikes

Check out a Citi Bike for free! You can also join in on a bike ride led by Urban Upbound, and check out services from Healthfirst.

123rd: health zone i

Health screenings for nearly every body part: Foot exams from the NY College of Podiatric Medicine, flu shots from Walgreens, blood pressure, depression, dental screenings from Boriken Neighborhood Health Center, and more.


122ND: TRAIN time

Get the scoop on the Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement project, which is currently replacing sections of the 130-year-old Park Avenue Viaduct from 123rd to 115th streets. You can also meet reps from the Second Avenue Subway project, which is on track to start construction in East Harlem by the end of this year.


121st: kids

Under the tracks: Facepainting and art-making with the Community Facepaint Collective and Art in the Park. Plus storytime with Literacy Inc. and the BUILD Cart from Street Lab.

West of the tracks: Rock wall, bouncy house, and big street games.


120TH: skateboarding

Pad up and try out a skateboard, with beginner clinics and obstacle courses from our friends from Bronx Girls Skate and Go Sports. Skateboards and safety gear will be provided for the sessions, while supplies last.



119TH: RESOURCES

Neighborhood resources, including job and volunteer opportunities.

118TH: BIKE ZONE

Kids bikes to take for a spin from Unlimited Biking, while supplies last. Plus bike, safety and health information from Urban Upbound, El Barrio Bikes, Transportation Alternatives and the Harlem Health Action Center.

117TH: FITNESS

Exercise classes to get you moving and grounded for fall, from Harlem Kettlebell Club, Harlem Yoga Studio & Meditation in Harlem. Come for a Zumba class with Leo Zumba at 1 p.m., and Yoga with Harlem Yoga Studio at 2 p.m.

Plus an obstacle course all day with Fun Fit Kids! And learn how to join a walking group with Girl Trek.


116TH: VIDEO GAME BUS

Step into the video game bus from Busta Bounce Entertainment!

115TH: ¡bomba, plena y lechon!

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of East Harlem’s historic bomba y plena group Los Pleneros de la 21 with a family bombazo and plenazo all afternoon. Meet and greet LP21’s dance and drum teachers for a children’s dance class at a12:30 p.m. and drumming class at 2:15 p.m.

Plus celebrate the one-year anniversary of La Marqueta’s own Cocotazo with a pig roast. Pick up dessert at Lizzy’s Treats, too!

112TH: free HELMETS!

Free bike helmets for all ages from the NYC Department of Transportation. Note that the line for helmets closes at 3:30 p.m.

Plus drop by the newest location of Harlem Children’s Zone at the corner.

111TH: ENVIRONMENT & CULTURE

Explore the new location of local small business Urban Garden Center following its relocation from 116th Street as part of the Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement project. Then celebrate the garden center’s four-generation history with the unveiling of a new art installation by fiber artist Carmen Paulino at noon.

Learn more about the environmental work of GrowNYC, Green & Blue Eco Care, Friends of the East River Esplanade and WEACT.

Plus get involved with cultural and historic preservation with East Harlem Preservation, Ascendant Neighborhood Development and El Museo del Barrio.

Also say hello to Union Settlement’s new Family Enrichment Center that just opened up down the block, along with other Union Settlement programs.

Water will be available at Carter Hospital at 122nd Street (12-4 p.m.), and The Good Good at 119th Street (2:30-4 p.m.)

GARDEN TOURS:

Take a tour of Lydia’s Magic Garden at 118th Street, east of the train tracks.
