Kadeem Phillip is a Trinidadian American self-taught pop artist who is part of the art collective Fantasy In Color. Through his character “Kadie,” vibrant colors and the use of diverse elements for symbolism, Kadeem translates his life’s journey into a realm of liberation and vulnerability.

Carla Torres is a visual artist who hails from Ecuador and relocated to Upper Manhattan in 2006. Her piece for Grandscale takes its inspiration from the mosquitoes she experienced on a trip to Thailand and represents the mosquito as a deity of transcendence along with the symbol Om.

Diego Molina hails from Ecuador and often works with fellow mural artist Gera Lozano. An illustrator and muralist influenced by popular culture, dreams, cartoons and Latin American culture, Diego for Grandscale painted a visual representation of the quote by Sri Chinmoy, “An inner experience is infinitely more valuable than the high wisdom of others imposed on us."

Jon Souza, also known as Phes, is a Brazilian-American graffiti/mural artist, emcee, producer and educator. Born and raised in Harlem, he takes pride in representing the rich history of Harlem, particularly the connection to Black culture and arts. For Grandscale, he created this piece that depicts three generations of women: A mother putting rollers in the grandmother's hair, while the child hands her another roller.

Christina Lane

Christina Lane is a Harlem-based designer and artist. For Grandscale, her piece is a visual interpretation of her motto: "Dream, but don't sleep,” meaning to not sleep on your dreams, but to stay alert and aware of your ambitions and goals. She painted the mural with the help of youth participants from Children Aid Society’s Dunlevy Milbank Center, and the piece is dedicated to the youth of Harlem.

Kaysuane is an artist from East Harlem/El Barrio who cultivated “Barrio Boy,” a brand inspired by the neighborhood. He has painted a piece in honor of being a Knicks fan.

Arloncito was born and raised in Washington Heights, went to school in Harlem and currently resides in the Bronx. He strongly identifies with 125th Street as the place where the whole neighborhood comes to do its shopping. For Grandscale, his mural represents his vision of the Harlem neighborhood.

Easha Fatima

Easha Fatima is a high school student who lives in East Harlem. She was motivated to join this year’s Grandscale Mural Project after being inspired by the murals of previous project years. Easha values her identity as Muslim Bengali American and the ways that it has shaped her perspective, and has found ways to connect her identity to her work by telling stories through her pieces. For this year’s Grandscale, she created a self-portrait of herself as a Muslim-American girl.

Jordana Abrenica is a queer artist of color who was born and raised in Texas, now lives in Harlem and feels that New York is the first location that feels like home. "A New York Night” takes the shape of a subway car and depicts classic NYC motifs and skylines. In the center, an angel rat rises to heaven and serves as a reminder of new life and new journeys, of following your heart all the way home.

Sara Lynne Leo often focuses her artwok on mental health. This piece allegorically illustrates the act of releasing emotions, with a door unlocking to unleash a vast sea hidden behind the door of our consciousness. The artist hopes the imagery will encourage onlookers to explore their inner world and reflect on the challenges and vulnerabilities that come with expressing emotions.

Kibrom Gebremedhin Araya hails originally from Ethiopia and loves the rich history and culture of Harlem and its welcome to African communities. His piece for Grandscale depicts figures wearing traditional Ethiopian attire, as well as circles — a shape commonly used in many African cultures, from the circular shape of hut houses to communal eating when siting in a circle.

The Royal King Bee

The Royal King Bee

The Royal King Bee was born in Harlem and raised in The Bronx in the early 1970s. He began his career painting graffiti on walls until gathering recognition and eventually being commissioned to create art throughout the city of New York. King Bee still resides in The Bronx, where he continues to draw inspiration from the vibrant surroundings.

Fallou Wadje

The Baayfall are a tribe in Senegal founded and led by Fallou’s great-great grandfather, Maam Cheikh Ibrahima Fall. Centering love, hard work and community (humankind), Fallou Wadje’s art reflects the values and history of the Baayfall themselves, and Fallou’s own family legacy.

Edgar Scott

Born in Los Angeles in 1961, Edgar Scott moved to New York in 1983 and worked as a photographer and fashion model both in the city and Europe. Edgar’s piece for Grandscale is a multicolored panoramic that reflects the different people that coexist in New York. Look for the character with vitiligo, which is Edgar himself.

Antonio Brown hails originally from Miami and now lives in Harlem, where he works in visual art and fashion. He also serves as a mentor and teaches art to young artists at The Dream Center Harlem. His mission is to enrich, enlighten and encourage, and to advocate for knowing who you are. For Grandscale, his piece depicts community, diversity and love.

Gabriel Castillo is a recent transplant from the Dominican Republic who has developed intentional roots in the heart of Washington Heights, a nexus of Black and Latino vibrance. As an illustrator, painter and creative director, he works with a number of community-based organizations in East Harlem, including JVS Project Space. Flor Khan is a writer and poet originally from Los Angeles, California. When she’s not crafting love poems, she’s dabbling in collage art and sculpting pieces centered on collective liberation. For Grandscale, they have created a tribute to Uptown's diverse colors, cultures and sounds, and its history of solidarity and resistance.

Chelsea Garcia

Chelsea Garcia describes her style as cartoon expressionism, always using bright and bold colors in her images. While working as a preschool teacher, she created her super-ego character, the Rainbow Dragon, while drawing with her young students. Chelsea utilizes her dragon throughout some of her works to tell some of the stories of her life. For Grandscale, Chelsea depicted the dragon giving birth to a baby dragon, a piece dedicated to power, love, the bond of a mother and her child -- as well as her own daughter, who was born in 2023 over the course of the project.

A lover of martial arts, Anjl was based for many years in New York City and has recently relocated to Florida, where she works outdoors with crocodiles. The tiger in this piece represents the truth of letting one’s soul speak freely.

Mattaya Fitts is a visual artist whose practice encompasses both studio and street art discipline. Influenced by individual and collective cultural narratives, the interplay of Earth's ecology, and the essence of divine femininity, Mattaya’s work integrates figurative elements and a subtle blend of abstraction. Her piece for Grandscale features a character with cloud-like hair and a golden apple, referencing the Big Apple and reaching for our dreams.

Denise Balcacer was born and raised in Inwood. Her piece for Grandscale is a self-portrait that depicts the artist looking into a mirror, reaching out to her current self behind a beautiful sky, as a way to pay homage to this neighborhood that has shaped her.

Christine DeFazio is an art educator and artist who works in the Bronx and writes for UP Magazine, focusing on Bronx street art. For Grandscale, she has created an urban dreamscape.

Portraits of Frida Kahlo are images you’ll often find in the work of Ysabel Abreu, as Ysabel feels that they are kindred spirits. Note how this piece incorporates the tail of the bird from SJK 171 next-door.

SJK 171 was born and raised in Washington Heights, and is one of the earliest New York City graffiti artists of the late 1960s and 1970s. He began writing in 1968 under the name SJK 171. He is also known as "King of the A Trains," because his graffiti dominated the A subway line of the New York City Transit Authority. For Grandscale, he depicts a two-faced bird that changes depending on the way that you look at it.

Tayron Lopez was raised in the Bronx. Now a full-time visual arts instructor at Harlem Prep High School, he found himself inspired by Grandscale installations from previous years that he'd walk past on his way to work. For this year's Grandscale, he depicts the faces of his students as they reach toward their dreams and healthy future. Rooted in Afro-Surrealism, Tayron's work connects decolonization and psychoanalysis.

Lovie Pignata is a Bronx-based visual artist who creates site-specific installations, murals and programming in Bronx parks and public spaces. Primarily using surplus or mass-produced items, found objects, and existing materials, she incorporates local history, culture, green spaces and waterways. She thrives to make her work "at home" where it lives. For Grandscale, ILovieNY is depicting the Harlem River and the two bridges: Macombs Dam Bridge and Third Avenue Bridge, that connect Harlem and The Bronx.

Taquon Capri Middleton's history is rooted in the Great Migration, as his family relocated from the Carolinas to Harlem in the 1940s. While he now works as a visual artist and architect, Harlem played a vital role in his upbringing. For Grandscale, he depicts a sneaker, as inspiration for those passing by to take one step at a time.

Kay Love is a Bronx-based graffiti artist and educator. For Grandscale, her piece is representative of her family, which hails from Puerto Rico, as well as the neighborhood’s rich Puerto Rican culture and its fight for liberation.

Rob Ayala was co-founder of the art collective Fantasy In Color and a two-year veteran of the Grandscale Mural Project. After he passed away in 2023, fellow Fantasy In Color member Kadeem Phillip (Life of Deem) refreshed and reinterpreted Rob’s 2019 Grandscale piece to serve as a tribute.

Christy Ayala is a vivacious, self-taught, Latina artist who was born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx. She is a co-founder of the artist collective Fantasy in Color alongside her late husband, Rob Ayala. Christy's artwork is inspired by personal experience and conveys a message of love and pain. For Grandscale, she has painted one of her central images, an anatomical heart.

Mykelangebro is a Spanish Harlem-based artist who often works in airbrush, as well as etched glass. He considers it his mission to create and inspire others from all ages to harness their artistic gifts and utilize them for all to admire.

Jennifer Jimenez was born in Harlem and now resides in the Bronx. She is obsessed with art and the freedom of expression that comes with it. For Grandscale, she pays homage to Harlem with inspiration from both 2Pac’s and Teyana Taylor’s “Rose in Harlem” / “Rose that grew from the concrete."

Nicole Garvin

Nicole Garvin is a Bronx-based multidisciplinary artist whose work considers a diverse, democratic, design form. In 2016, she started Bronx Art House, and is currently a student in the City College of New York Master’s in Art History program. For Grandscale, she has created a large-scale variation of a sticker series that she's been working on for more than a decade.

Art Man Dan grew up in upper Manhattan and now lives in the Bronx. Both a marathon runner and professional artist, his mission is to colorize the world, make the complex simple, and ensure that art is accessible to his community. For Grandscale, his message is a nudge to all who pass by to love themselves. He hopes he boosts someone's day.

Laura Alvarez

Laura Alvarez was born in Spain and moved to the Bronx in 2009, where she found a community that welcomed her and made her feel like home. Since that time, she founded Friends of Soundview Park to bring free art programming to the community, and co-founded the Bronx Arts Factory, nonprofit committed to unlocking the inner artist. For Grandscale, she has created Pachamama, an earth goddess revered by the indigenous peoples of the Andes, as a reminder that we have only one planet and need to take care of it.

George Luis Torres, Jr., was born and raised on the Lower East Side and would travel to East Harlem frequently to visit Puerto Rican family.  Heavily influenced by the hip-hop and graffiti culture of the 1980s-1990s, he works in acrylic and aerosol. For Grandscale, he depicts subway commuters riding to and from work while on their devices, each in their own worlds.

Swink NSG’s mission is to bring beauty to community and work with children, creating good feelings with all people daily. For Grandscale, he created an abstract work that’s both a tribute to the history of graffiti as well as inspired by the moving transit in the area and the bustling city streets.

Evan Bishop

Evan Bishop was born in the Bronx in the 1970s. With the emergence of hip-hop as a global phenomenon, he gravitated to the visual element of the culture: Graffiti. His desire to paint his tag on trains, buses and walls in the Bronx and Manhattan superseded the dangers of live third rails, rival graffiti artists and transit cops. Now a mural artist and arts educator, Evan has painted for each incarnation of Grandscale, with his most well-known work a mural of DMX that he painted in 2019 along with BLAZAY, Tommy the Animator and Katori Walker. For this year's Grandscale, Evan depicts the word LOVE using ancient symbols and sign language.
