The request for this mural came just as we were finishing the project, from the family of Tiburcio “Tibo” Castillo, a server and member of the kitchen staff at Quatorze, a restaurant on the Upper East Side. In June 2023, he was riding his bike home over the Willis Avenue Bridge to the South Bronx when he was ambushed by robbers, put into a coma and ultimately passed away in Lincoln Hospital. Originally from Mexico, he leaves behind his wife and four children ranging in age from 4 to 14 years old. Grandscale artist Ysabel Abreu teamed up with Tibo’s brother Palemon to create this tribute based on a family photograph.
